S/Y Colona Sailing Scuba Diving in Burma

COLONA II has another first: diving and sightseeing trips in the MERGUI ARCHIPELAGO in Burma. COLONA II was one of very first foreign yachts able to legally operate in these waters. The islands are absolutely pristine with prolific bird-and wildlife, waterfalls and  rivers navigable by dinghy. The beaches are spotlessly clean and the waters crystal-clear. Save a small number of Sea Gypsy settlements the entire archipelago is uninhabited.

Most of the diving is still of the exploratory kind but exciting new sites have already been discovered. The outer edges of the dive area almost border on the famous Burma banks and the diving on, for example Black Rock and North & South Twin Islands, has proven to be at least as good as that on the famous Banks.

Preliminary dives in and around the archipelago have so far yielded numerous species of sharks, schools of manta rays and a couple of seamounts which should be excellent for whale sharks. The small life is rich enough to keep any macro photographer happy. It is excellent to dive virgin reefs teeming with life and there will be no other boat in sight. Overcrowding is certainly not an issue here!

When you are not a diver the Burma trips might still well be worth your while, snorkeling is very good and there is ample opportunity to explore the islands and beaches. A canoe is available as well for free use.

COLONA II has a departure schedule and guests are welcome as join-ins.

Alternatively you and your group might want to consider taking a private charter. As the yacht only takes 6 guests the costs will pleasantly surprise you. In this case a special itinerary will be arranged, tailor-made to your personal interests.

There are NO complicated visa procedures for you attached to these trips into Burma. Guests fly to Phuket and will be transferred to and from Kwatun by air-conditioned minibus, a five-hour scenic trip. The actual boat trips start and end in Victoria Point (Kwatun) on the Burmese/Thai border.

You can fly directly from Bangkok by Phuket Air To Ranong as well every morning, We will meet you at the airport.

Customers from Phuket ,
pickup will be around 8:00 am from every Hotel

We use an air-conditioned Minivan and the transfer takes 4-5 hours. The route is scenic and we will stop for refreshments at the Khao Lak Nationalpark and at the Kuraburi Resort. Lunch is included in the price, drinks are not included.

At Ranong Immigration, the group will check out of Thailand, a longtail boat will take them across the river to Kawthoung on the Burmese side. In Kawthong our local agent will take care all the paperwork while you will have time to take a walk around that small colonial town.

The yacht will depart Kawthoung around 15:00 PM and head for the first anchorage to have a quiet night.
